As a successful TV and film actress with a lovely daughter, you’d think Courteney Cox has it all. However, she suffered too much pain and loss to fulfill her lifelong dream of becoming a mother. For years, Courteney Cox has graced our TV screens. Cox has always entertained and amazed her fans, whether as the neurotic Monica Geller on the famous sitcom FRIENDS or as a divorced woman in her forties facing the challenges of life in ‘Cougar Town.’
Courteney has wanted to be a mother since she was a child. “I used to want to have eight children,” Cox said in an interview. When I was younger, it was a fantasy of mine because my mother, who was an only child, had four children.” “Now, looking back, I’m not sure how she did it,” she continued. The baby part, such as getting up early, is difficult. She works extremely hard, and I admire her tremendously.”
It wasn’t easy for Courteney Cox to become a mother, despite her simple wish. Let’s look at some of Cox’s problems while filming FRIENDS:
Cox’s Struggle To Become A Mother
Monica and Chandler from FRIENDS battled infertility. Like many real-life couples, the fictional friends who became a couple collaborated to understand their difficulties conceiving a child. In the meantime, Courteney has always been open about her personal life away from the camera. Everything about Courteney was an available book, from her tumultuous 10-year marriage to David Arquette to their infertility struggles. Their journey was also reminiscent of her FRIENDS character.
“I get pregnant easily, but I have a hard time keeping them!!” Courteney said in a People Magazine interview in 2003. Cox and Arquette had several miscarriages and fertility treatments that failed. They later discovered that Courteney was suffering from Antiphospholipid Syndrome. It is a blood clotting disorder that leads to pregnancy loss.
The couple openly discussed their hopes for their child’s “strength and beauty” and David’s “creativity and mind” in an interview with Barbara Walters. They were open to the possibility of adopting a child as well. “I want David’s genes, so I think I’d try a surrogate before adoption,” Courteney said at the time.
When Courteney turned 39, the couple decided to try IVF one last time. They wanted to give it a shot, despite the fact that the odds were stacked against them. “It’s a well-known fact that after a certain age, you have a much lower chance of this kind of fertility treatment working,” Courteney told People Magazine.
Fortunately, Courteney became pregnant shortly after their announcement, and the pregnancy was a success this time. Coco Riley Arquette was born to the happy couple on June 13th, 2004.
Due to her southern routes, Courteney wanted to name her daughter Courteney Cox. Surprisingly, their daughter was born due to a compromise between her and David. On the other hand, David is half Jewish, and they never name a child after a living relative. As a result, they chose Courteney’s mother’s nickname. Mama Coco was her moniker.
Courteney Struggles While Shooting Rachel’s Birth Sequence In FRIENDS
In both real and fictional life, the difficulty of starting a family was a constant. In an interview with NBC, Courteney admitted to having a difficult time in her personal life following multiple miscarriages. She also talked about how challenging it was to film Rachel’s birth sequence alongside the rest of the show. She admitted that the scene in which Jennifer Aniston’s character Rachel Green gives birth was challenging to shoot.
“Sometimes, like when I had a miscarriage and Rachel was giving birth,” she explained. That was the case at the time. Oh, my God, having to be funny was a nightmare.” During the conversation, she also revealed that she had seven miscarriages before giving her daughter Coco. “I had a lot of miscarriages,” she explained, “and I don’t think that’s something that people shouldn’t discuss.” “Because,” she continued, “it was unfortunate, but it happens.” I believe it is critical to get information out there so that people realize they are not alone.”
Coco is now a beautiful seventeen-year-old girl. Courteney has never shied away from admitting that she struggled as a mother. She also revealed that having a child at such a young age and all the fertility treatments had taken a toll on her figure. She can’t believe she had a baby at the age of 40. “As you get older, things become more challenging,” she explained.
The couple intended to have a second child, but in 2010, David and Courteney divorced. This, however, hasn’t harmed their relationship with their daughter. They share custody of Coco and will always be best friends. “He will always be my very best friend, no matter what happens in our future,” Courteney said. Meanwhile, she and David are enjoying their roles as parents to Coco.
