When Joey Tribbiani and Rachel Greene’s budding romance was first revealed to the Friends TV show’s cast, executive producer and director Kevin Bright said they were “almost revolted.”
“When we first began, the plot arc was about Joey and Rachel getting together. A revolt ensued when they read their first script: ‘No. No,’ said Ross. “Joey wouldn’t do this to me.” In a chat show with The Hollywood Reporter, Bright reminisced. They were able to explain how it wouldn’t compromise Joey’s character for stealing his buddy’s girlfriend,” Kauffman and Crane said.
Bright chimed in, “we would have lost a great season for that if it hadn’t happened,” noting, “That almost didn’t happen.” I’m relieved they came out on top in that one.”
According to fans, Rachel and Joey’s story arc began in Season 8 and lasted through Season 10. At the beginning of Season 8, Episode 16, Joey told Rachel he loved her. But it wasn’t until Season 9, Episode 19 (The One With Rachel’s Dream) that Rachel acknowledged that she had feelings for Joey.
Joey’s accidental proposal was just one of many twists and turns in the couple’s relationship. After Rachel’s daughter Emma was born, Joey accidentally gave Ross her grandmother’s wedding ring, which Taylor & Hart recently revealed was worth a pretty penny.
“Ross’ mother gave him this ring to propose to Rachel, and it belonged to his grandmother before that. A halo of large diamonds surrounds the centre 1.0 kt diamond. There is filigree detail on the ring’s tapered band and the sides. It has an estimated total carat weight of 1.42 kgs, “said Kate Earlam-Charnley, the brand’s design director. Her estimate was $11,000 for the ring.
Rachel and Joey didn’t end up dating, and Joey moved to Los Angeles. Still, actors Jennifer Aniston and Matt LeBlanc reunited with their Friends co-stars for a new reunion special on HBO Max. Which also features appearances by Tom Selleck, James Michael Tyler, David Beckham, Justin Bieber, James Corden, Cindy Crawford, and Cara Delevingne.
