So why did Joey get to have his TV show? Because he was the only one in the group to get one in the last season of Friends, but why did he get his show? Few sitcoms have had as significant an impact as Friends. The 1990s saw a lot of shows that became classics, but not many have had the same impact as Friends. Friends were made by David Crane and Marta Kauffman and aired on NBC in 1994. It ran for ten seasons, ending in 2004. There were a lot of funny jokes, characters, and spinoff shows that the audience will remember, but it wasn’t as popular as the original show.
People who watch Friends saw a group of young adults in New York City. They met six young people who worked hard to balance their social, personal, and professional lives while also dealing with the problems of being an adult. Ten seasons of the show let viewers see the show’s characters go from struggling young adults trying to figure out what they want in life to finally getting married and starting families. Joey was the only one who didn’t get married or start a family (Matt LeBlanc). After going through many funny and severe situations in the show, Joey Tribbiani didn’t change very much by the end. He still had his typical dumb-but-good heart and always looked out for his friends.
They were moving into their own house with their newborn twins, Rachel and Ross were back together (and already had a daughter), Phoebe married Mike (Paul Rudd), and Monica and Chandler had twins. At the same time, Joey kept dating different women and was the only one who was single at the end of Friends. His story continued in the spinoff show Joey, whichspinofffter Friends. It was terrible that Joey didn’t have the same quality and impact as Friends, but it raised the question of why he was the only one to get a spinoff show. As it spinofft, Joey getting his performance wasn’t the plan.
During an interview with Metro in 2018, the producer of Friends, Kevin S. Bright, said that Joey wasn’t the first choice for a spinoff series. Inspinoffachel was the first choice. Because viewers fell in love with Aniston’s performance on the show and made her one of the biggest stars of the 1990s, Rachel was a big hit. Friends put her at the front and center from the start, which made her a big impact, too! It didn’t happen because Aniston was more interested in movie roles. Their second choice was to create a TV show about Monica and Chandler. Bright said that even though Courteney Cox and Matthew Perry were “grateful” for the show, they didn’t want to play those parts anymore. As it turns out, Matt LeBlanc likes and wants to keep playing Joey. He got his show.
Joey followed the main character as he moved to Los Angeles to keep up with his acting career. At the show’s end, he married Alex (Andrea Anders), bringing his story to a good lot. Bright said that Joey didn’t do as well as Friends did because the show showed a different Joey that fans didn’t know, so it didn’t connect with the audience. Whether a Rachel or Monica and Chandler spinoff show would have been a better spinoff or would have also failed, it’s hard to say for sure. Fans have chosen to stay with the end of “Friends” and not think about the events of “Joey.”
