Folie Deux co-star and former Harry Potter actor Brendan Gleeson has joined the cast, giving Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga a new Joker to play. After the merger of Warner Bros. and Discovery, DC Films’ future is reassessed. The DC Extended Universe’s future is still being decided, but Joker 2 has already received approval. Soon after the first movie exceeded box office estimates on its way to grossing over $1 billion globally, the sequel to the 2019 Oscar-winning comic book movie began production.
Joker 2’s script had to have a compelling enough hook for Joaquin Phoenix to agree to reprise his role as Arthur Fleck, so writer and director Todd Phillips spent the last few years perfecting it. Once Warner Bros. officially approved the DC movie, it was made public that Lady Gaga had joined the cast as Harley Quinn. Early ideas regarding the title’s meaning were confirmed by news of Harley Quinn in Joker 2, and Lady Gaga’s casting coincided with rumours that the sequel would primarily use musical aspects. Since then, significant progress has been made on the film in anticipation of its October 2024 release.
According to Deadline, Gleeson has now been added to the Joker 2 cast in place of Lady Gaga and Phoenix. Gleeson gained fame for his role as Alastor “Mad-Eye” Moody in the Harry Potter series. He also performed standout in The Tragedy of Macbeth, Paddington 2, and In Bruges. Although the identity of Gleeson’s Joker 2 role is unknown, Deadline reporter Justin Kroll suggested on Twitter that it could be the warden or a security officer at Arkham State Hospital. The start of production is anticipated for December.
With the addition of Gleeson, Joker 2 has four cast members. Instead of portraying a familiar comic book character. Gleeson will play a unique character created specifically for the film. In addition to Phoenix and Lady Gaga, Zazie Beetz will return as Sophie Dumond, Arthur’s former neighbour. In the anticipated sequel (and possible love interest).
Although Joker 2’s plot is still unknown, anticipation for the sequel is growing. Because of the cast and knowledge of what the original film accomplished. Brett Cullen played Thomas Wayne in the first Joker movie. Which starred Robert De Niro, Frances Conroy, Shea Whigham, Bill Camp, and Robert De Niro. Even though there are currently only four cast members for Joker: Folie Deux confirmed. Each new name on the list shows that the sequel is assembling yet another talented cast.
