What Happens to Dobby Between Chamber of Secrets and Deathly Hallows in Harry Potter?

One of Harry Potter’s most devoted companions is Dobby the house-elf. Even though he only appeared in two films, he was an essential character in the literature.

Dobby the house elf is one of the most popular characters in the Harry Potter universe, and he frequently appears on fans’ wish lists. Dobby was initially presented as one of Harry’s biggest fans and most faithful allies in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. He does not return to the films until Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Dobby wasn’t just sitting around doing nothing between the two films. He kept himself busy between the two stories and remained a part of Harry’s life. So, let see have a look at what he was up to.

Dobby’s First Meeting with Harry Potter

Harry lived with the Dursleys, his aunt Petunia, uncle Vernon, and cousin Dudley when he was twelve years old. It was challenging for Harry to live with them that summer because he had just finished his academic year at Hogwarts, where he was a student of magic and surrounded by friends and people who cared about him. However, they never wrote to him that summer, making being apart from them much more lonely. This was, of course, due to Dobby’s negligence rather than their own. Dobby admired Harry Potter because he had beaten Lord Voldemort, so when he learned that something dreadful and terrible would happen at Hogwarts, he devised a plot to prevent Harry from attending, beginning with cutting off Harry’s mail.

When Dobby entered Harry’s room, Harry learned of Dobby’s plans. Dobby then sabotaged Uncle Vernon’s business agreement by barring Harry from entering his room. But it didn’t stop Ron, Fred, and George Weasley from rescuing Harry, so Dobby went even farther and sealed the Hogwarts Express gate to keep Harry out. However, Harry was able to get to school using the Weasley family’s flying automobile. Dobby then attempted to have Harry hurt by a rogue bludger so that he might be sent home. Even if that didn’t work, Dobby never gave up trying to help. Lucius Malfoy had planted Tom Riddle’s diary on Ginny, framing her for the Chamber of Secrets attacks, and he helped Harry piece it together. Harry aided Mr. Malfoy in rescuing Dobby by presenting him with Harry’s dirty sock and releasing him from servitude in exchange for his loyalty and mistaken heroism.

After Leaving The Malfoys, What Did Dobby Do?

Dobby Harry Potter is a fictional character. Dobby set out across the country searching for a new career after being released from the Malfoys’ employ. However, he was unsuccessful for a few years since he had decided that a life of servitude was not for him and had sought to be compensated for his labor. He picked up his friend and fellow dismissed house-elf Winky along the way, promising to support her in her time of need. Because of this gesture, he was introduced to Dumbledore at Hogwarts.

Dobby was paid for his labor and given some time off at Hogwarts. He was able to keep his promise to Winky and start a new life. He spent his money on outlandish apparel, with a particular fondness for socks. This is how he and Harry were reunited in the Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire novel; Hermione went to the kitchens and discovered Dobby, bringing Harry back to meet him. In the book, Dobby gave Harry the gillyweed he needed to survive in the lake during the Second Task.

In Harry Potter and Order of the Phoenix, Dobby also aided Harry. Harry and his companions needed a venue to hold Dumbledore’s Army meetings where they could practice their Defense Against Dark Arts without Dolores Umbridge getting in the way. Dobby introduced Harry to the Come and Go Room, dubbed the Room of Requirement. It’s worth noting that both of these gestures were made to Neville rather than Dobby in the film adaptations. After Sirius died, Harry inherited Kreacher and set him to work at Hogwarts. He finally enlisted his cooperation and Dobby’s house to spy on Malfoy, who was plotting to assassinate Dumbledore in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

Dobby’s Courage And Loyalty Led To His Untimely Death

Dobby reappeared in the movie and books. He reappeared when Harry and his companions were hiding at Sirius’ old house in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. As part of their search for the locket containing one of Voldemort’s Horcruxes, he tracked down Mundungus Fletcher with Kreacher. Harry could not see him at the house after they successfully penetrated the Ministry of Magic, but they saw each other again afterward. Dobby developed a strong relationship with Aberforth Dumbledore, who despatched the house-elf to Malfoy Manor to rescue Harry and his pals from the dungeon.

Bellatrix Lestrange flung a knife at Dobby as he disapparated Harry and his friends to safety, and Dobby perished. He took them to Shell Cottage, where Ron’s brother Bill and his wife Fleur lived. Dobby died in Harry’s arms from his wounds, and his final words were Harry’s name. This was one of the sad moments in the entire book. It also had such an impact due to Dobby’s pure heart, bravery, loyalty, and unique relationship with Harry, which began in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and lasted the entire series.
