Why Did Tom Felton Leave The Flash After Season 3, and Will He Return?

Tom Felton (Harry Potter) played Julian Albert on The Flash, but here’s why he departed after only one season and whether he’ll return.
Here’s why Tom Felton left The Flash after only three seasons and whether he’ll ever return. Felton had previously acted in films such as The Borrowers and Anna And The King before landing his breakout role as Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter trilogy. He’s still most recognized for playing Malfoy. However, since the final installment of the Harry Potter saga, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, he’s worked on various projects. He played another villain in the sci-fi reboot Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes – where he’s partly responsible for the titular uprising and appearances in the horror movie The Apparition or historical drama Belle.

Tom Felton joined the cast during the third season of The CW’s hit superhero series The Flash. Dr. Julian Albert, played by Felton, was Barry’s new CSI lab partner and a Team Flash comrade. Felton’s Albert is revealed to be a villain named Alchemy, voiced by Saw star Tobin Bell during his stint on the show. After he was freed from his alter-ego, Albert built a bond with Caitlin Snow, and while The Flash season 3 isn’t regarded as one of the best, Felton’s work was well-received. Despite this, The Flash season 4 revealed that Dr. Albert had returned to London, and the actor has yet to appear in the series, except for a few cameos in the following seasons. While some fans were disappointed to see Tom Felton leave The Flash after season three, there was no drama surrounding his departure. In 2018, the actor told Digital Spy that he only signed on for one season of The Flash, after which he moved on to other projects like the action film Stratton and the YouTube sci-fi series Origin, which was canceled after one season.

In the same interview, Felton claimed that he would be open to a future return, noting that he missed working with the actors and that “For nine months, I lived in Vancouver and had a terrific time. Yes, I say bring Julian back!” However, there has been no further word about Albert’s comeback, and the character’s departure from The Flash felt a touch abrupt and disappointing.

The chances are excellent that Tom Felton’s Julian Albert will make a cameo appearance before the end of The Flash. Meanwhile, Felton has found employment in films including A Babysitter’s Guide to Monster Hunting and Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts, which will be released in 2022.
