HIMYF just went a long way to correcting the show’s biggest flaw. Original How I Met Your Mother was many people’s favorite or least favorite part of the TV show. After HIMYM ran for nine seasons, a spin-off was almost talked about right away. However, it took nearly a decade for HIMYF to come out. It looks like it was worth the wait.
That Tracy McConnell (Cristin Milioti) had already died when Ted Mosby (Josh Radnor/Bob Saget) started telling his kids the story in the finale of How I Met Your Mother. Because Ted had always loved their mother and thought she was perfect. He was thinking about dating Robin Scherbatsky at this point. They thought it was a bait-and-switch and that Ted didn’t have a good relationship with the mother. Because she had always said that she didn’t want to settle down and have kids. The story’s end was not to show how Ted met their mother.
One of the main problems with Robin’s ending on How I Met Your Mother was that it had to cover a lot of her life in a short amount of time while also giving attention to other people. As a journalist, Robin missed out on a lot of things. She needed more time to show how she had changed her attitude and how much she missed out on while on the road. In the season 1 finale of HIMYF, Robin’s cameo at MacClaren’s bar, where she was able to give Sophie (Hilary Duff) advice about her relationship with Jesse, the show fixed this. It doesn’t take long for the scene between the two of them, but it puts Robin’s experiences under a magnifying glass and makes the change that How I Met Your Mother had to make while making the five main characters happy and killing off the mother.
HIMYM was able to handle most character endings well. Seasons before, the ends of Lily Aldrin and Marshall Erickson were almost set, and their fate was just happy. Barney Stinson’s (Neil Patrick Harris) death bothered some fans, but it was clear that he would change his life. It was also necessary to distance his character and his creepy behavior. Ted Mosby was the main point of the show and his conclusion. It could be easy to think Robin Scherbatsky’s How I Met Your Mother ending was more for Ted than her own story.
There are so many ways Robin’s cameo with Sophie in How I Met Your Father is what Robin’s story needs. It also leaves room for Robin to show up again in later episodes of How I Met Your Father. In the HIMYM series finale, Robin is a successful reporter, and her relationship with Barney breaks down. At the show’s end, she wants to have a more stable life with Ted and his adult kids. Who she has already been a part of. As a result, the middle ground between Robin and Sophie in How I Met Your Father is never shown. Robin’s happy but a regretful conversation with Sophie in the movie helps bridge the last gap and fix a big How I Met Your Mother flaw.
