10 Supporting Roles On The Big Bang Theory That Were Seen Most On The Show

The Big Bang Theory featured a core cast of seven characters and featured multiple other supporting figures throughout its 12 seasons. The Big Bang Theory was one of the most beloved and acclaimed shows on television for 12 consecutive years. Its massive success was thanks mainly to its core cast of seven characters — Sheldon, Leonard, Penny, Howard, Raj, Amy, and Bernadette — who kept audiences invested and laughing aloud.

President Siebert

Joshua Malina plays Dr. Siebert, Caltech’s president, who oversees the university’s spending and is responsible for getting more funding. He has a contentious relationship with the group, particularly with Sheldon, but still supports them. Siebert is also behind some of Leonard’s best career decisions in The Big Bang Theory, mainly giving him control over the Physics department’s budget and assigning him as the co-lead on a photo entanglement project.

Mary Cooper

Sheldon’s profoundly religious and overly loving mother makes her debut in season one and is constantly present throughout the show. Played by television icon and Oscar-nominee Laurie Metcalf, Mary becomes a maternal figure for the entire gang. Mary does have her fair share of flaws, like her overt racism and lack of decorum.

Bert Kibbler

Geologist Bert Kibbler is arguably the most awkward character in a show full of them. He is a typical gentle giant who befriends the group and takes part in some of their most memorable adventures. At one point, he even joins Howard and Raj’s band, Footprints on the Moon.

Beverly Hofstadter

Unlike Sheldon’s loving mother, Leonard’s maternal figure is cold and judgemental. Beverly Hofstadter is a world-renowned neuroscientist, psychiatrist, and published author, played by Emmy winner Christine Baranski. Leonard and Beverly have a tense relationship, arguably the most complex dynamic in the show, and  The Big Bang Theory fans would love to see a spinoff of Leonard’s family.

V.M. Koothrappali

Rajesh’s father, V.M. Koothrappali, is a successful and wealthy gynecologist living in New Dehli. He talks to his son via Skype, often scolding him for not being married. V.M. visits Raj once, during season eight, and spends Christmas with his friends at Amy’s apartment.

Wil Wheaton

Actors often play fictional versions of themselves on television shows and movies, and Wil Wheaton does precisely that in The Big Bang Theory. He first appears in season three as Sheldon’s archenemy before becoming a more friendly character in season five. Wil eventually becomes a close friend of the gang and, at one point, works alongside Penny in the sequel to her low-budget cult classic, Serial Ape-ist 2: Monkey See, Monkey Kill.

Emily Sweeney

Contrary to popular belief, Raj had his fair share of girlfriends. However, Emily is arguably the most significant of his partners. She’s a dermatologist with a particular taste for the macabre who meets Raj through a dating site and begins a relationship with him soon after. She gets along with most of his friends and likes Raj for who he is. In hindsight, Raj and Emily were perfect together on The Big Bang Theory, and it’s a shame they eventually broke up.

The Big Bang Theory: Barry Kripke

Barry Kripke is at times so creepy that he makes season one Howard seem like a gentleman. Kripke is a fellow physicist at Caltech, formerly studying plasma before transitioning to String Theory. He has a rivalry with Sheldon and enjoys pulling pranks on the socially awkward genius. Barry is also remarkably clever, and the show sometimes hints that he’s fully capable of matching Sheldon’s level.

The Big Bang Theory: Debbie Wolowitz

Despite never once physically appearing, Mrs. Wolowitz is a constant presence on the show. She is Howard’s overbearing but loving mother. Who overprotects and babies him. She is famous for her distinctive voice. She was often screaming her demands to the increasingly frustrated Howard.

The Big Bang Theory: Stuart Bloom

Stuart is practically The Big Bang Theory‘s eighth main character. He appeared in 84 episodes and was a leading cast member for five of the show’s 12 seasons. Stuart is the owner of the comic book store that guys frequent.
