Flight Attendant Season 3 Gets New Update After Kaley Cuoco Expressed Doubts About Returning

The Flight Attendant season 3 gets an update more than a year after lead star and executive producer Kaley Cuoco expressed doubts about a return. Based on the novel of the same name by Chris Bohjalian, the adaptation premiered in November 2020 on the service formerly named HBO Max. The show’s season 1 was a breakout hit, following Cassie Bowden Cuoco as the titular flight attendant. Regularly exhibiting reckless behavior and struggling with alcoholism, Cassie wakes up in a Bangkok hotel room next to the dead body of a man she’d slept with the night before. The performance garnered Cuoco two Emmy nominations and led to a speedy season 2 renewal.

After the series concluded in May 2022, with Cuoco casting doubt on The Flight Attendant season 3 in the months that followed, TVLine has offered an update on the comedy thriller’s future. A source for Max (the new name for HBO Max) has shared that there has been “no official decision” made about whether the show will return.

In her initial comments about The Flight Attendant season 3, Cuoco said in part, “We did two — we should probably be done.” The Big Bang Theory alum explained how the dramedy could still return and that some of her favorite shows have taken some time to return. That approach may be best, especially given the more muted reception to season 2.

The adaptation’s season 2 dropped in the crowded period of Emmy contention between April and May 2022, ultimately getting less coverage and fan attention than other Emmy favorites such as Better Call Saul. This is in contrast to how The Flight Attendant season 1 became a surprise hit in the quieter time of November 2020, telling a fun and complete story that was both funny and emotionally resonant. When it was renewed, likely due to the positive response from audiences and critics, it gave the characters a satisfying farewell but narratively felt apart at the end.
